A Newfoundlander in Canada

Often in a van, sometimes in a bus, occasionally in a car with broken wipers "using Bob's belt and a rope found by Paddy's Pond" to pull them back and forth, Alan and his bandmates charted new territory as they travelled province to province.  It was a journey punctuated by triumphant leaps forward, deflating steps backward, and everything in between.  Along the way, Alan's preconceived notions of the country, largely informed by watching Hockey Night in Canada and hearing stories on the wharf, were constantly challenged.  And despite the demands of touring across such huge distances, Alan returned to Petty Harbour as frequently as he could, coming home to share with family and the b'ys tales of streakers in Thunder Bay, the Queen of England in Ottawa, and the Swedish women's alpine ski team in Lake Louise. 

Funny, insightful and heartfelt, Alan's adventures from the road tap into the complexities of community and Canadianness, forming a portrait of a young man trying to define and hold on to his sense of home while navigating a vast, diverse, and wonder-filled country.
